Lake Wylie is the second oldest lake on the Catawba River chain with a shoreline of 325 miles. The impoundment of the lake occurred in 1904 with the construction of the Wylie Dam. Lake Wylie is very unique in the fact that there are many towns very close to the lake. Lake Wylie is 17 miles from Charlotte, one of the nation's fastest growing commercial and financial centers and site of Charlotte Douglas International Airport, and 15 miles from Rock Hill, strongly emerging as an economic hub in Piedmont South Carolina.
